Below are typically required responsibilities for inspection, maintenance, and repair of stormwater management facilities.
Your responsibility may vary, depending upon the specific design and legal documents and your county or city.
Even if you are not required - routine inspections and maintenance can save you money by catching small
problems before they become major expense items.
Inspections
- Perform visual inspections 1 to 3 times per year
- Perform a detailed "Checklist Inspection" 1 time per year
- Perform inspections after extreme storm events
- Evaluate downstream areas
- Get qualified assistance
Maintenance
- Mow grass areas
- Remove trees and brush from critical areas
- Remove sediments and accumulated pollutants
- Eradicate rodents and repair burrow holes
- Make sure pipes, orifices, overflows and spillways are unobstructed and in good condition
- Remove trash and debris
- Maintain fencing and gates
- Maintain access
- Correct pest and vector (mosquito) problems
Repairs
- Seed bare areas
- Repair erosion, gullies or unstable areas
- Eradicate rodents and repair burrow holes
- Replace or repair pipes, orifices, overflows and spillways when needed
- Repair seepage problems
- Rebuild failed dam areas
- Armor pipe outfalls
- Prepare Emergency Action Plans for downstream "Danger Reach" areas
